Specification

Countertop-grade, or we walk away.

This is not craft resin, deep-pour river-table resin, or generic art resin. Anything softer, lower heat-rated, or non-UV-stable will fail on a kitchen surface within 6–18 months. We confirm every line below with the mill — TDS, SDS, hardness, heat, UV — before a drop hits Perth laminate.

Grade

Countertop / benchtop epoxy

Not craft resin, not deep-pour river-table resin, not flooring metallic kits.

Shore hardness

D 80–85

Hard enough for plates, cutlery and daily abrasion. Softer resins mark in months.

Heat resistance

≥ 90 °C continuous

Warm mugs, toasters and residual pan heat. Craft resin softens around 50 °C.

UV stability

Explicitly non-yellowing

Kitchen windows and under-cabinet LEDs yellow cheap resin in a Perth summer.

Mix ratio

1:1 or 2:1 by volume

Forgiving measuring on site. We avoid awkward 100:43 weight-only industrial mixes.

Viscosity

Self-levelling flood-coat

Flows across the deck and down the edge without thick ridges or starved thin spots.

Pot life

30–45 minutes

Enough working time for two 3 m+ runs without a panic cure.

Build

2–2.5 mm flood, optional second coat

Enough body to encapsulate the edge and read as a new surface, not a paint film.

Coverage, not marketing kits

Two benches a little over 3 m × 600 mm is roughly 4 m². A proper 2–2.5 mm flood that wraps the bullnose wants 10.5–12 kg mixed, with 15–18 kg a sensible buffer for wastage, edge runs and a second thin top coat. Retail “one kit does a kitchen” claims do not survive that arithmetic.

We source industrial countertop epoxy — not marketplace leftovers. Shelf life is 6–12 months from manufacture. That is why we do not sit on drums to flip, and why we will not pour expired hardener that has gone amber.

Walk-away list

  • No Shore hardness or heat rating listed
  • “Food safe” claims with no technical data sheet
  • Crystal-clear craft resin well under industrial pricing
  • Deep-pour 5 cm river-table formulas sold as benchtop
  • Suppliers who will not send an SDS
  • Vinyl wrap or architectural film sold as a ten-year bench
  • Metallic floor kits sold as a kitchen surface
